Paronychia(Nail infection) & Aromatherapy
A paronychia is a superficial infection of
epithelium lateral to the nail plate. The acute painful purulent
infection is most frequently caused by staphylococci. The patient's
condition and discomfort are markedly improved by a simple drainage
procedure.Pain
and swelling surrounding the nail are the most common complaints.
TREATMENT: The treatment of choice for a paronychia is incision and
drainage.
All severe cases of paronychia should be examined by surgeon and
further procedure should be followed by his suggestions. But at the
onset of paronychia, when complications has not been appeared yet,
the aromatherapy could propose a simple , natural and efficient way
to stop the progress of infection. In order to alleviate
symptoms(reducing a pain and swelling), which makes an infection
easy bearable, and to act directly to the infection causing
bacteria, the aromatherapy offers treatment with the:
1. Oregano essential
oil(Origanum vulgare). Oregano oil, as a most powerfull natural
antibiotic, can act directly against bacteria :
Staphylococcus aureus ,
Streptococcus
species, as well as against some fungi. Besides, oregano oil acts
as an analgesic, reducing pain and swelling.
The procedure is wery simple:
Put the two drops of pure oregano oil(Origanum
vulgare) directly on the nail bed.The oil will diffuse deeply in
the surrounding tissue, and soon will cover all infected area.
Reducing the pain will be noticeable a few minutes later, and will
last few hours. The procedure should be performed twice a day for
the seven days period. After that, the same procedure should be done
with the oil of :
Australian Tea Tree(Melaleuca alternifolia),
for the period of next seven days.
NOTE: Children under 6 years should not use
oregano oil , and in this case we propose use of Tea Tree oil: One
drop of pure Tea Tree oil twice a day for seven days period.
WARNING: Oregano oil can strongly irritate the
skin. So it is important to put the oil exactly on the infected
area. Some burning and iching from the irritated surrounding tissue
should be consider as a normal. If burning would result with the
great redness and pain, the procedure should be discontinued.
